It is important to research the concepts behind your project early on because then you have an idea on what your product is really on. Our research helped find the ingredients for our product and figure how it works. Without the science we wouldn't have known how to build this product. We are almost finished with the science.
We are very confident on actually making a working prototype for your project. We are already bringing items in to build the prototype. One item that we just brought is boba.
If cost were not an issue, an issue we would be hit with is the design of the product. The design is what we need to achieve to make the product. If cost was a big issue, then we think it might cost around 25 cents.
Our next steps for our group in the design and building is to test the prototype and figure out the design of the product.
So far, our group has finished up a majority of the science, which has helped us greatly. In my opinion, it is very important to research the science early on, as it helped us develop our product, as knowing what materials we needed, which we figured out from the science, helped us make nearly everything for our product, from making the physical design, to writing a majority of the website. Knowing the science behind our product changed many features of it, as our original product was extremely fluoride based, but once we figured out that fluoride was not only dangerous when consumed in large quantities, but it was also very difficult to obtain, which would have made making our physical example next to impossible.
We are fairly certain that we will be able to make a final working prototype, at least to some extent, as we have all the materials that we need for our final product, and we just need to assemble them together similarly to how we put together our MVP. The difference between our MVP and our final product is not much, as the only difference is the fact that we replaced the liquid myrrh with bland boba, as it is a bit easier to work with, but myrrh can be easily put into the shell design we’ve already created.
If cost we not an issue, as right now it is, our only other major problem would be getting the enough myrrh and compacting our shell design to a point where it is very easy to ingest, and will be much harder to choke on. This, however, isn’t as big as a problem compared to the cost issue (which is a bit hard to map out, with us not being quite sure on how much myrrh we need in each pill, as we just have a rough estimate), and can be easily solved by cutting down on the amount of shell-like material, by making the pill itself smaller and by making the shell layer thinner.
Our next steps for our minimal viable product would probably cutting down on size, and using a tiny bit less material for each pill. Other than that, we are mainly done with the MVP and are just testing to see what is an optimal size and how much of each ingredient we should include to balance out the tastes.
It is important to research early on because you need to have a small background before you start the product. You will have to know at least a little about the science so that you know where your project is headed. This way, you can direct your product in the way you need. My research changed the product because that way I found out what materials I might need. Also, I was able to find some holes in my product and fix them so I didn’t have to find them and fix them later on.
Making a working prototype is very possible, and our group will attempt it. We already have all the necessary materials to make our product and we are currently making one. For the judges, we have decided on using a boba instead of myrrh oil because we are not sure if the myrrh oil is 100 percent edible. We have already bought the things we need to build it and we are currently doing several scientific experiments and are building our prototype. We are very close to finishing our prototype, and just need to complete some simple experiments before we finalize it.
Our biggest obstacle is also the most important part of out product - the myrrh. We are using the myrrh oil to clean the teeth and kill bacteria in mouths, but we are not sure if it is edible. Because of this, we can’t actually go fully through testing and try out our prototype. Money is not an issue for building our prototype. We have more than enough money to buy new supplies and more products if possible.
Our stance in building the prototype is that we are going through testing. We have built the basic product and have all our plans set out to build the prototype. We just have to finish testing with the myrrh oil and making sure it actually kills bacteria before we can fully complete our prototype. In conclusion, we are finished with most of our prototype and and just need to finish testing with the myrrh before we can fully complete the prototype.
It is very important to research the science early on because you need a basis of the science to start working on the prototype. Also as time goes on, you add new science discoveries to you research. Research shaped our project in lots of ways. We discovered different materials that can remove plaque. Also we know the science will be hard to do, meaning you need time to do it. Also failures will definitely occur, but you have to get up and try harder.
We are pretty confident that we can building a working prototype as we have had a lot of time to work on it. We started in week 4 way ahead of all the other groups. Instead of using Myrrh to remove the plaque, we are replacing the myrrh oil with boba to make it easier to build the working prototype. It will have two icebreakers covering a boba acting as the myrrh. We also need to test the myrrh works by conducting a very scientific experiment.
Cost is a relatively important problem for us to deal with. The icebreakers are not too expensive with about 2 icebreakers costing about 30 cents. But the cost of the myrrh is about $13 for a bottle. Meaning our final cost per unit would be about 50cents. And customers want it for 25 cents, so we need to find a way to reduce the cost. We have the money, but finding the price. But funds isn’t a problem since have $75.
Team interactions are going pretty well so far. We are cooperating very well with each other. I would classify my team as very motivated and encouraging. I would say that my team is very hardworking and fun.
I think that confidence makes a leader a good leader. In our group we haven’t established clear leadership and we don’t really need it. We work along together just fine so we don’t need a leader in our group. I think we just need the CEO on bigger thought or opinions. I think a company can be a true team of equals but the CEO always has to have a final say in the end.
So far many conflicts have been managed. The most effective strategy is to vote on which idea is better. If there is a tie, then the CEO is the tiebreaker. If some people aren’t working effectively, then probably they might be off task or not working as hard as they should.
I think the personalities of my team members are important to me. If one member of the group is angry, it makes everyone not work as effectively as before. I think it is important that friendship is fostered in a company team. I think we are doing well on how we are operating right now. We should try to work together efficiently and try to make a design of the prototype next week.
So far, our group has been interacting quite well, as none of our interactions have left each other with a annoyed/bad feeling. I feel that our team, overall, has a lot of energy, friendly and encouraging, and all of us are extremely motivated to try and get to showcase. In our group, no single person has entire control over the whole group, as we each direct one part of the project and regularly update each other on what we are doing, but when it comes to making bigger decisions, all of our thoughts and opinions are factored in, but if push comes to shove, the CEO almost always has the final word, unless the other three people disagree with him.
So, in a way, the company is a true team of equals, but we have someone to help make the harder decisions as to help prevent hard feelings and split in the group. Everyone has been on task, every day, and we’ve found that the most effective strategy is to set goals, and assign personal duties to each person, so they will feel motivated to do as well or better as other people in the group, which only causes each us to make each other better. In addition to this, we frequently have group meetings to see who can do what to maximise efficiency, and to also make sure that one person isn’t doing one thing the whole time, and then getting bored of doing it, which in turn lowers the overall quality. So far, there has been little to no conflict in our group, but the only time there was/might have been was assigning parts in the Literary Review; whose conflict was solved in mere seconds, and deciding who would present which portion of the slides, which took a bit more time, but was not very time consuming nonetheless. The personalities of our group is very important, as some of us are funny, some have an extremely bubbly and kind exterior and some have a mentality to get a lot of work done, and these different personalities mold together to provide us with a better working environment, which gets the most work done, at the highest quality, with the least conflict.
It is important that friendship is fostered in our company because this friendship helps us bond, which helps us understand each other, which, in turn, helps us work much better together without having to constantly question and doubt our group members’ work/working quality. As of right now, our team is working together extremely well and very efficiently, and as mentioned before, our motivation and desire to keep up and/or outperform others in the group help us progress forward into the coming weeks.
Pranav K ( CEO )
Our team is high energy, motivated, and friendly with each other. Our team has had a few arguments but gotten through them easily. So far, our team is working well together and everything's going smoothly. Our team is also very excited about search and winning the competition.
A good leader doesn’t boss people around, but he works with his team. A good leader also uses people’s skills respectively and makes sure everyone has a job to do. I have established a leadership position in my team, and I try my best to find tasks that best suit the person’s skills. A company should be one team of equals, a clear leader is not needed. A company can only be all equals when each member is familiarized with the team and their teammates. For the first few weeks or months, a clear leader is required, but as the people get more accustomed to each other, they can transform into a functioning team of equals.
So far, conflicts have been handled easily and smoothly. If a conflict arises regarding the product or company, our group has a vote on it. If we have a conflict regarding a member of our team, we all try to be as reasonable as possible and have a formal and calm argument. Then we agree on a solution. The most effective strategy for keeping people on task I have found is to set goals for the end of the period. This way, they are pushed to complete the goals by the end of the day and more work is completed. People might not be working effectively if they have something on their mind and they become distracted. This can cause them to drift off topic and their productivity goes down.
The personalities of the team members are extremely important to me. Friendship is very important in our team and is critical to our team getting along. Friendship makes everyone get along better and makes people get to know each other. Our team is working really well together because everyone is friends with each other and everyone knows each other. Some new strategies are to give two people the same job so we become more accustomed with working with each other.
